Activity
of Group
Including Position Statement |
The group has
met on two occasions and is considering the OfSTED service indicators
and seeking to develop performance indicators which related to widening
participation in learning and the quality of teaching.
It has been
agreed that the work of the Group will be subsumed by the SW Lifelong
Learning Planning Group.
At the last
meeting of the group on 20 September, the group received a presentation
from Ben Johnson Hill Associates on their pilot work, in conjunction
with NIACE (National Institute for Adult and Continuing Education)
on developing performance data and indicators for adult learning.
Three of the authorities present (Devon, Dorset and Cornwall) are
part of the Phase 1 work with reports due in November. Phase 2 work
is expected in January 2001 and all other authorities present expressed
a strong interest in taking part. This work will make a significant
contribution to establishing a national framework for benchmarking
of adult learning at a time when the rigours of Best Value and the
requirements of the new funding body for adult learning, the Learning
and Skills Council (LSC) are making considerable demands on adult
learning staff.
