This group was established to benchmark financial services across the South West especially those services delegated to schools. There appeared to be a 'mystery' in the way in which financial services were delivered.

As Financial Services means different things to all LEAs the first task is to separate out the duties of an "Education Finance" section. At an early stage it was agreed to identify corporate charges as some functions are dealt with by Treasurer's Department in some authorities.

The next stage was to separate the services between those provided to the Director of Education and those provided to schools. It is these two areas that the group concentrated its benchmarking activity on.

The group also provides Section 52 comparisons for the South West.
